{"id":28324,"date":"2023-11-09T16:39:21","date_gmt":"2023-11-09T16:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.totalkitcar.com\/?p=28324"},"modified":"2023-11-09T16:39:21","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T16:39:21","slug":"maybe-one-day-well-truly-realise-what-a-genius-william-towns-was","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tkc.grainwork.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/11\/09\/maybe-one-day-well-truly-realise-what-a-genius-william-towns-was\/","title":{"rendered":"MAYBE ONE DAY WE&#039;LL TRULY REALISE WHAT A GENIUS WILLIAM TOWNS WAS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.totalkitcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/AM-Bulldog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-28325\" src=\"https:\/\/www.totalkitcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/AM-Bulldog-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>The Aston Martin Bulldog, which earlier this year reached 205.4mph, was on display at the British Motor Museum recently.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The William Towns-designed Bulldog\u2019s arrival at the museum, escorted by a Hollywood film crew, came hot on the heels of it being filmed at Classic Motor Cars Ltd (CMC) in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, for a major documentary about the history of the car, its restoration by CMC and how it succeeded in its goal of passing 200mph.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At CMC, the film crew interviewed Richard Gauntlett, the son of the former Chairman of Aston Martin, Victor Gauntlett, who managed the restoration of the Bulldog and the ultimate speed run for the owner of the car, Phillip Sarofim.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stephen Laing, Head of Collections &amp; Engagement at the British Motor Museum, said: \u201cThe museum\u2019s collections include the most innovative products from Britain\u2019s motor industry, over its long history. The Aston Martin Bulldog is one of those\u00a0cars\u00a0and sits perfectly in the surroundings in the Museum, a supercar of its time. On a personal note,\u00a0I remember\u00a0as a small child visiting the Birmingham Motor Show and being enthralled by William Towns\u2019 remarkable Lagonda. Bulldog captures even more so his design spirit. I\u2019m delighted to see it at the Museum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aston Martin Lagonda\u2019s Historian, Steve Waddingham, who visited the museum when the car was installed last Friday, said: \u201cMany British design concept cars which didn\u2019t make it are on display at the British Motor Museum. The Aston Martin Bulldog is a concept car that did make it. It was designed to do a job and it did it 40 years later when it exceeded 200 mph earlier this year.
