The long and thrilling story of AC Cars is about to open a new and remarkable chapter.<\/p>\n

AC Cars has launched a \u2018new\u2019 limited series of 12 special edition models recreated from the 1963 AC factory Le Mans cars. They will be called the\u00a0AC Cobra Le Mans<\/strong>\u00a0electric<\/em>. <\/em>The motor may be electric but it has\u00a0460Kw of power and 1000nM of torque <\/strong>(that\u2019s the equivalent of 617bhp and 738 lb\/ft).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new cars will have bodywork sourced from AC Heritage using some of the original, now decades old, \u2018technology\u2019 employed by AC. This comprises a highly trained pair of human eyes to judge the fineness of the line of the bodywork, sheets of high-grade aluminium and, not least, the services of a specialist \u2018planishing\u2019 hammer wielded over the delicious curves of an AC body jig.<\/p>\n

But for these 2021 recreations, new ideas and new skills were required too. Inside the handcrafted bodywork is a power system for a new age. AC has introduced to its talent pool the services of its new Derby-based technical partner Falcon Electric (https:\/\/falconelectric.co.uk\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Falcon\u2019s proud description of itself more than hints at its pedigree and ambition: \u201cWe are a hard-core technology company with the mission to make electric vehicles exciting. Passion and emotion drive us, electricity and innovation drive our vehicles\u201d.<\/p>\n

In 1963, AC built two bespoke AC Cobras for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. One of those was registration number \u201939 PH\u2019 and the other one was registration number “645 CGT”. Six of each of the recreated cars \u2013 bearing one of the two distinctive liveries – will be offered to customers from today.<\/p>\n

The \u2018new\u2019 cars importantly will have chassis numbers each bearing a new and unique prefix as well as their original, in sequence, AC numbers – a vital pre-requisite to their place in the valuation process in the future. The numbers will be listed alongside all other ACs in the company\u2019s \u2018World Registry\u2019, an important historical listing which underpins the importance and pedigree of the AC marque.<\/p>\n

The 12 \u2018new\u2019 heritage cars will each cost from \u00a3720,000 inc VAT.<\/p>\n

The man behind AC since he acquired the brand in 1996, Alan Lubinsky, commented: \u201cWe are determined to make a tremendous success of these recreated\u00a0AC Cobra <\/strong>Le Mans\u00a0electrics\u00a0<\/em>designs when they are launched first in the UK and later in other markets. We know the external appearance will win the approval of many \u2018traditional\u2019 AC fans. The inclusion of an up to the minute, emissions free powertrain from our new friends, the electric experts at Falcon, will chime well with the excellence of the handmade bodywork built in the historic and important location of Brooklands!<\/p>\n
