John Cowperthwaite has been in touch with news of his latest creation, a kiddies car (aimed at children between five and ten years old) called the EKO \u2018Safety Racer\u2019.<\/p>\n
This one is a petrol-powered kid’s car inspired by a thirties ATCO children’s safety car,\u00a0which was\u00a0powered by one of their motor mower engines.<\/p>\n
Power comes from a 50cc go-ped engine (with a throttle stop), disc brakes all-round, the EKO is a plans and patterns build, made from two Wilko compost bins\u00a0and the mudguards cut from a Wilco water butt.<\/p>\n
While still being simple to construct, this is a more sophisticated design than John\u2019s Lightning and the plans and instructions reflect this consisting of 28 A4 assembly drawings, seven A3 templates and four 4ft 6in foot long folded paper sheets that contain the individual full-size\u00a0for fitting the body sections and to paste onto plywood to make the ‘tub’.<\/p>\n
The build manual is an information CD with 80-pages of large typeface detailed instructions and large format colour photographs to make assembly easy.<\/p>\n
